Two beautiful identical twin girls, one has Brugada and the other...well at this point we just don't know if she has it or not. Brugada can either be hereditary or it can be a faulty gene but until we get Darcie's genetic testing back we simply don't know which one it is - and even then it's not that simple. So more to come on that at a later date.
At this point we just don't know if Harper has Brugada Syndrome but she will be tested further soon.
But what we do know is that because the girls are identical there is a chance both Harper as well as Darcie have the condition. When Darcie was first diagnosed, we were told Harper would have to undergo further tests, but because of Covid-19 that's been pushed back somewhat. So finally, Harper had her first appointment with Darcie's cardiac team to discuss her next steps. She had another ECG where a right bundle branch block was picked up again (this was picked up on her first ECG too) but what is this? A bundle branch block is a condition in which there's a delay or blockage along the pathway that electrical impulses travel to make your heart beat. Similarly, Brugagda patients have this pattern on their ECG's in addition to right precordial ST-elevation...
Harper will also be scheduled for an 'Ajmaline Challenge' later in the Summer. The purpose of this test is to see whether Harper is likely to have Brugada or not. The test involves putting her to sleep under general anesthetic and injecting her with the drug 'ajmaline' - if the drug alters her ECG pattern she'll also be diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome.
